Jun Gu, with a doctorate title after receiving his PhD degree at Lancaster in 2014, keeps on working in the field of accounting and finance till now as an academician without any outstanding publication record or teaching experience, and on walking in the way of proving the slogan publish or perish in a different way around. Jun has a strong interest in typical accounting theoretical issues that include how accounting information and is now working on accounting for financial institutions and instruments, interactions between analyst’s preference and firms’ external financing capacity, as well as on some works of social networking for listed firms.
As an accountant without any qualification prior to his achievement of ACMA and CGMA qualification on late December of 2019, and without any experience of working in the industry even for a single day, the very best and only chance that left for Jun to contribute, is to teach. Jun’s teaching refers to a wide range of curriculums that are essential in building up fundamental knowledge for students seeking for the future career in accounting or finance. He is currently teaching management accounting, financial statement analysis and security valuation at the undergraduate level, and corporate finance for the master students. In addition, he is also in charge of a course that introduces first-year research students accounting literature that are essential in contemporary academic research.
Jun has strong motivations in public activities for both academicians and practitioners. His research is frequently presented in top international and domestic conferences, e.g. the Annual Congress of European Accounting Association, the Annual Conference of China Accounting Association, and in quite a few top universities and institutions in China. He is a founding member and a director on board for Leadership Empowerment and Organization Development Research Center in Guangdong and is a founding member of an unofficial accounting research forum that focuses on the promotion of academic research in a broadened range. Jun also keeps good connection with industries in accounting and was invited to share his some ideas towards the challenges of accounting education in a digital era at the Annual Congregation of Kreston International in China of 2019.
Jun has a hobby in reading, being a big fan for detective novels and non-fictions in psychology and economics, as well as a loyal follower for illustrated version of Harry Porter. He also enjoys photographing, cooking, and travelling. He is married, having a happy life with Tina and Jade.
